An extensive two-month cruise around the Land Down Under has been cancelled following the tragic passing of an older woman who was left behind by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a pause. The ship departed without her and came back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the lady was missing.

A major search operation discovered her body the following day.

Officials are examining the incident, in coordination with police and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that passengers would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the travelers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any additional guests from entering the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

The vessel initially left the Australian port on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the senior passenger's death. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.

The vessel accommodates up to 120 travelers with forty-six personnel, according to company information. It was specially constructed to enter isolated areas of the nation's shoreline and is equipped with "small boats" - minor craft used to ferry passengers on day excursions.

Incidents like this are uncommon, and cruise ships have procedures to document which passengers are getting on or leaving, according to travel authorities.

Shipping companies consider these processes with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such occurrences from happening," the authority added.
